Day 2 – Get On

San Antonio Sketch

San Antonio's Rolling Hills

The start of our day begins at an annual festival at the Pioneer Museum in Dade City. James' cousin drives us over and we amble our way to the "trash and treasure" barn to search out the bargains and gems hidden in this little town. Much to my surprise, there are the everyday treasures you would find at most yard sales, with the exception of a few cool housewares. We leave with just a few little tokens: some StarFox watches that we talk about reselling, and a belt for me (I can't believe I didn't bring one). We mill around a bit longer while his cousin loads up on fake flowers, old tins and jars. Walking around we are reminded that we are in the south still, with creepy confederation pride wear everywhere. We make it out of there without offending anyone and head to breakfast.

There's not too many places to choose from for breakfast, but we decide to play it safe and head to IHOP (at least you know what you're getting). After the longest, slowest breakfast, we finally finish and head back to James' house to shove off already. The day is slipping away and tonight our destination is Panama City, FL.

We end up driving for 7 hours before finding a motel about 45 minutes out of Panama City. It's a beautiful driving day up the west coast of Florida with lots of great little sites. Parts of the ride remind me of the Keys, which is probably because of the stilt houses.

The real adventure for the day was almost flipping the bike over. Oh, and the wasp in James' helmet. Boy was that ever scary. But the day's reward was the sight of beautiful white beaches with singing sand.
